Every man was created to wield power and authority, but not every man knows how to use that power for good.
The Good Man Series is an exploration and journey that addresses a quiet crisis among men: isolation, confusion, false strength, and the pain of having unfathered and unfinished hearts. This journey offers a different way—one rooted in kindness, truth, courage, and a partnering with the restorative work of God.
All men carry strength in their hearts — the desire to protect, to fight for what matters, to live with honor, courage, and purpose. But somewhere along the road, many of us learned to hide, prove, or live in fear. Beneath the noise and pressure of modern life, God designed something far better for men than a constant state of survival. He designed us to be Good Men — beloved sons with settled hearts, warriors with a purpose and cause, husbands and fathers who love strongly… men who live kindly and leave an impression for good. Men who are strong enough to fight for love, and humble enough to be changed by it.
The Good Man Series is a free eight-session video journey into the heart of a man — helping you rediscover who you truly are, confront the False Self that keeps you bound, and step into the strength of the healed and wholehearted life Jesus offers. The video series is designed to watch on your own or with a group of men in a weekly small group format, or as a weekend retreat.

The Problem Men Feel But Rarely Say Out Loud
Many men are carrying more than they let on.
Pressure.
Isolation.
Disappointment.
A quiet sense that life isn’t what they hoped it would be.
Some men cope by working harder.
Some escape into distractions.
Some grow distant from the people they love.
And many quietly wonder: Is this really what life as a man is supposed to feel like?
The truth is — it’s not.
God created men for something far deeper and far more alive than simply getting through the week.
A Different Kind of Strength
The world tells men strength means dominance, success, or control.
But Jesus reveals something very different.
A good man is not the man who conquers others.
He is the man who learns to overcome within.
A good man is:
- A beloved son who knows he is deeply loved by God
- A man of courage who faces his wounds instead of hiding them
- A warrior for love who fights for his family, his friends, and the good of others
- A man becoming more whole, not more hardened
This journey is about discovering the strength to be a good man.
Who This Is For
This series is for men who:
- Feel stuck, disconnected, or weary
- Want to grow spiritually but aren’t sure where to start
- Desire deeper friendships with other men
- Want to become better husbands, fathers, and leaders
- Long to experience the life Jesus promised
You don’t need to have everything figured out.
Just bring your masculine heart.

What You'll Experience
Across eight 25–30 minutes sessions you’ll explore:
Session 1: The Good Man
In this first episode of The Good Man Series, hosts Michael Thompson, SJ Jennings, and Josh Overton invite you into the journey of recovering your heart and becoming a good man. They each share what they are hopeful you will experience, and set the stage for how this series will play out. In an open conversation, they name some of the problems that men face, such as isolation and false strength, and establish that freedom – not performance – is the goal of this exploration.
Session 2: The Larger Story
Like any expedition into the unknown, The Good Man Series needs a map. This session acts as that map, orienting you to the journey ahead. Michael Thompson lays the framework for The Good Man Series by asking the question, “Do you know the story you were born into?” He shares about the reality of the physical and spiritual realms, and the two kingdoms – the Kingdom of Light and the Kingdom of Darkness – which are engaged in a spiritual war over your heart.
Session 3: The False Self
Sometime in life, every man constructs a false version of himself, built over time to survive, to arrange for love, to impress others, or to avoid pain. In this session, Michael Thompson explores how this False Self hides who you truly are, and how, if not dealt with, it will create disruption and destruction. Through honest awareness and biblical encouragement, Michael invites you to begin deconstructing your False Self by seeing that there is something deeper and more true to who you truly are.
Session 4: Wounding
This session invites you to see where the False Self came from and the impact it has had on your life. With gentle strength, SJ Jennings reveals that the creation of your False Self was a response to moments of wounding. SJ vulnerably shares how his own wounding shaped his beliefs about himself and about others, and how living from a wounded heart led to a life of unsustainable striving to prove himself. But, there is hope – when we discover our wounds, there is an invitation to walk back into those places with Jesus.
Session 5: Healing
All men desperately need to remove anything and everything that is in the way of receiving God’s love. Having explored the power that wounding moments can have in our lives, in this session, Josh Overton guides you into the process of healing with God – receiving truth, breaking agreements, and restoring your true identity. With openness and authenticity, Josh shares from his own journey, and demonstrates how healing is the remedy and the cure provided by God for your heart, which will not only transform you but will also empower you to love others.
Session 6: The True Self
In this session, Michael Thompson invites you to see that the True Self is not just who you are becoming—it is who you already are. Knowing this intellectually isn’t the same as experiencing it internally. Michael shares that it is the love of God that transforms us – helping us see what wasn’t from God and inviting us to overcome, so that we can become who we truly are and receive how God sees us. This is what a man must experience—an experiential knowing of who he truly is: a son, an image bearer, a good man.
Session 7: Glory
Scripture teaches us that God has Glory … and so do you. With biblical grounding, in this session Michael Thompson shares that your small-g glory—how you uniquely bear God’s image—is a gift given to you by God, and is meant for you and for others. This is why the enemy uses others to wound you and lie to you about you, keeping your True Self hidden and at bay, thwarting who you are, and the glory you bring to the world. Because our enemy fears you and what you might become when you train in rhythms that sustain freedom.
Session 8: Taking It Home
In this final session, Michael, SJ, and Josh share that The Good Man Series was not designed to be a one-time event. It was designed to be the beginning of an opportunity for healing and training that equips and encourages you to practice a very good way to think, believe, and do life. They invite you to go and continue to live this way—in your marriage, your family, your work, your friendships, and your world. It isn’t easy, but it is good. There is a reason Jesus gives us, commissions us, with power and authority … we’re going to need it.
Each session can be experienced on your own or with a group of men.
